Getting your kitchen remodeled can be exciting, but it can also be daunting. Your kitchen is one of the most important places in your home, and you need to have a plan in place before you remodel. In this article, we will discuss some tips to help you in this regard.
Prepare a Makeshift Alternative
For a period of time, you will not be able to prepare food in your kitchen. That said, you will need to take steps to create a small hub elsewhere in your home. You can move small appliances, like the microwave, to a spot elsewhere in your home, and you can also stock a mini fridge somewhere else. If the weather is nice, you can use an outdoor grill to cook, or you can use a camp cooker to prepare meals. You'll also want to stock up on disposable plates, cups, and silverware if you know you will not have access to your sink or dishwasher.
Stock up on Food
You can prepare foods like tuna fish and crackers, microwave dinners, cereal and milk, bagels and cream cheese, bread with peanut butter and jelly or cheese and lunch meat, and you can set aside a budget for eating out on occasion. Have snacks available, like dried fruit, nuts, and seeds, and you can freeze soups and casseroles ahead of time. This will give you several ready food options to defrost in the microwave, and these choices will be healthier than eating fast food.
Pack Items Away
During a remodel, there will likely be painting and construction work, and you do not want sawdust particles or paint splatters to get on your dishes or other utensils. To prepare, get some boxes and put away food items, cups, silverware, and dishes. Be sure to label the boxes accordingly, before putting them in a part of your house that is temperature regulated and that is away from the remodeling work.
